Position: Production & Warehouse Team Member

Position Summary

Smokey Mountain Lumber is seeking a dependable, hardworking individual to join our lumber and custom millwork production team.

The ideal candidate is physically capable, detail-oriented, comfortable working with lumber and machinery, and committed to being a productive member of a team.

Primary Responsibilities

• Safely operate forklifts to load, unload, transport, and organize lumber and finished products.

• Accurately measure lumber using tape measures, including fractions of an inch.

• Count boards, verify quantities, and maintain accurate inventory records.

• Assist with pulling, sorting, stacking, bundling, and preparing lumber orders.

• Load and unload trucks and customer vehicles safely and efficiently.

• Assist machine operators with material handling and production activities.

• Inspect lumber for obvious defects, damage, and quality concerns.

• Maintain clean, organized, and safe production and warehouse areas.

• Follow instructions, production schedules, and established safety procedures.

• Support coworkers and assist in other areas of the business as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Forklift experience: Ability to operate a forklift safely and competently. Must complete company-required operator training and evaluation.

• Measuring: Ability to read a tape measure accurately, including fractions down to 1/32 inch.

• Counting and basic math: Ability to accurately count materials, calculate quantities, and recognize discrepancies.

• Physical capability: Ability to perform frequent heavy lifting, carrying, stacking, pushing, and pulling of lumber.

• Attention to detail: Accuracy in measurements, material identification, and order quantities.

• Teamwork: Willingness to cooperate, communicate, and help fellow employees accomplish daily production goals.

• Dependability: Consistent attendance, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.

• Safety awareness: Commitment to proper equipment operation, safe lifting practices, and required personal protective equipment.

• Pass the Practical Hiring Test

Physical Requirements

• Frequent lifting and handling of heavy, long, and awkward lumber.

• Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and carrying materials.

• Working in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with machinery, dust, noise, and varying temperatures.

• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Team lifting and mechanical assistance are required when appropriate for safe material handling.
